Miranda Morrow’s love of art began at the age of three. Every weekend her Grandpa would cover the kitchen table in newsprint and let her paint for hours and hours. Miranda took art lessons in her early childhood at the Victoria Art Gallery.

Her love of art also quickly turned into a love of dance and music. Miranda is an Associate of the Victoria Conservatory of Music in performing and teaching. She graduated with First Class Honours.

She is also a graduate of the Opera Studio at the Victoria Conservatory of Music. Miranda enjoyed performing for years with Opera Studio and Pacific Opera Victoria. Some of the works she sang in were The Tales of Hoffman, The Marriage of Figaro, Die Fledermaus, The Abduction from the Seraglio and Un Ballo In Maschera.

Through her work in opera and dance, she was exposed to the art of stage make-up application. She was inspired by the materials, textures, sparkle and detailing in the costumes as well. This interest landed her a job at M.A.C. where she had extensive training with some of the best make-up artists in Canada. Miranda then freelanced as a make-up artist for many years while continuing her training for opera in Toronto and New York.

At this point, Miranda started to paint again with acrylics in a mixed media type application. In her younger years, her inspirations were about exploring boundaries and rules. She had been raised by an older generation and she was always pushing back against the generation gap.

Miranda then moved to Calgary and focused the next ten years on creating her greatest work of art, her daughter Bella.

Miranda has decided to dedicate her focus to her art again. A full circle moment! She remembers those early years painting with abandon at the kitchen table. Now, Miranda brings a maturity of life experience to her art. She explores devastating loss, grief, fear, abuse, abandonment, anxiety and other painful moments we all experience in life at some point. She explores the beauty within the vulnerability we face in those situations. Miranda also likes to explore gender equality, sexuality and the LGBTQIA2S+ community in her work.

These are themes and topics that she feels very strongly about and continues to support, celebrate and educate though her art.
